I'm getting an error when trying to get super-patch working... i'm not
sure why... i'm not much of a programer but i would love to get this
working
the error is:

Editor DLL initialisation failed [LoadLibrary failed, code is 00000485]

is this just something i missed?

Oh, and the linux version i can't get to work either, it's saying:

/povray: error in loading shared libraries
: undefined symbol: __bzero

i think that one is because i'm missing a file, or a file is corupt, can
anyone help me here either? (i would rather get linux version working,
but either would be good)

Thanks before hand
   the Loial Raven

P.S. Have fun eh :)

The superpatch Linux binary distribution does assume that you have
already correctly installed libpng.so and libz.so. If you have not,
you will probably get an error. On the other hand, you'd get the
same error with the official distribution, too.

What version of Linux are you using? Specifically, which distro and
version number, which kernel version, and which C library? The
binaries on my website were built with OpenLinux 2.2 on glibc2. I
don't know what kernel I'm running offhand. I did notice that
either povray or x-povray is built wrong, due to stupidity on my part,
so you may find that the other one works. For now, the best fix for
that problem is to download the source and build your own if you need
the one that's broken (whichever one it is.)

Just to be sure, you did install the official POV source first, then
the superpatch source on top of it, right?

If so, and if you still can't get it to build, tell me what errors
you're getting so we can see about working around them.

It is, but the superpatch isn't linked from there. I've been slow
about getting a real webpage up around it.

Try http://www2.fwi.com/~parkerr/superpatch

I am having trouble with POV on Debian, too. FYI, I have Debian 2.1
("slink"), the current stable release. 2.2 ("potato") is the current
unstable release. As to libraries present, my version has libc6 (and
libc5 in another directory), glibc2, libpng.so.0, libpng.so.0.96,
libpng.so.2, libpng.so.2.1.0, libz.so.1, and libz.so.1.1.3. They are
in /usr/lib. None of the binaries for either 3.1g or Superpatch work
for me. I haven't yet been able to compile them either, although that
may well be general Linux newbieness. As to the errors the binaries
give me:

3.1g as root:
s-povray: segmentation fault
x-povray: segmentation fault

3.1g as regular user:
s-povray: error in loading shared libraries: undefined symbol: __bzero
x-povray segmentation fault

Superpatch as root:
povray: error in loading shared libraries: undefined symbol:
__register_frame_info
x-povray: error in loading shared libraries: undefined symbol:
__register_frame_info

Superatch as regular user:
povray: error in loading shared libraries: undefined symbol:
__deregister_frame_info
x-povray: error in loading shared libraries: undefined symbol:
__register_frame_info

I have a few tips on this:
Check which libraries are actually loaded with ldd. Do this for both
root and user.
The difference could stem from LD_PRELOAD. This is, if I remember right,
not evaluated for root.
If ld.so includes the wrong libraries, do a LD_PRELOAD of your own.
There may be a chance to get that done for root as well. But I have a
fog 1 there.

Axel

PS: I'l give that spare brain over to Ron. But I will patch it with some
'linking-module' first.

Hey, i got x-povray version to compile, it took reinstalling with using
unzip -a <file>... that made those anoying ^M's disapear hehehe... well, it
also took some playing with the makefile... but for some reason, it won't
compile the svga based one, which i rather use... it keeps on saying that it
needs a bunch of X stuff, so i think things aren't fully set up in the
makefile... if anyone knows about where the problem is now, the help would
be most apreciated :)

Oh, and also, both the windows version and the linux version don't have the
spline's working, am i missing something? or is it disabled...?
