Why the caustics is red? Is it a bug or what?
  Sorry about the size of the example, but I couldn't get it any smaller.

Yes, it looks like there is a bug.  The bug appears to be in the automatic
computation of an internal variable (which sets the range of intensities
for photons).  You can override this automatic computation with the
following line (as a temporary workaround):

global_settings{photons{range_divider 2048}}
