Running POV-Ray v3.6 on Linux (kernel 2.6.5), using -GA does not appear to
have any effect. POV-Ray reports in its output that all streams are turned
off, yet they all are sent to the standard output regardless.
Can anyone else verify this?

Note: I'm downloading the official source right now, and I'll try compiling
it tonight. If the problem persists, I'll try to track it down in the
sources - but I've never delved into POV-Ray's internals before, so that
might prove difficult :)

Yes, this seems to be the case. Note that for avoiding any text output
at the console you can simply use
povray 2> /dev/null
