Hi all,

With the official binary I have had no problems, though it is slow.

I compiled my own and whether I compile static or dynamic, with or
without any optimisation it always dies trying to render benchmark.pov.
I have tried Ken's and Micha's binaries and they also die on benchmark.pov.
I can render a 40x30 image but not a 400x300.
The program either seg faults or locks the box up totally.
Many other scenes will render ok.

I tried compiling the program with electric fence. This shows no errors
on simpler scenes but I do not have enough memory to render
benchmark.pov while using efence.

Anyone else see this problem?

Regards,
Geoff

It's an Athlon 2000 XP running Mandrake 8.2.
gcc 3.1.1 or 3.2 makes no difference.
Motherboard A7V333 with kernel 2.4.19-rc3-ac2 compiled with gcc3.1.1
Seems stable otherwise, quake3 will run as long as I can be bothered
letting it run, ditto memtest86.

I just did a 400x300 rendering of benchmark.pov which worked fine.

Hmm.. strange. Have you tried on a bit-more-official linux kernel? Have you
tried other sences that use photons (e.g. optics.h)?

I can render optics.pov ok.

I am using such a new kernel because the original Mandrake one doesn't
have drivers for the southbridge chip on the motherboard but I will give
it a go when I reboot next.

I noticed you have produced some more binaries so I will try those too.
Cheers for making them available.

Geoff
