I recently installed POV on Linux (Red Hat 6.1). Problem is, x-povray does not
create a preview window while rendering. If I force this with +d x-povray exits
with an error about being unable to initialize the display. Both POV and the X
server are running on the same machine, so -display <name> should not be needed.
Has anybody else had this problem or could recommend a solution? I'm a total
Linux newbie so the cause could be something silly...

Are you running this from an xterm window, that's the way I do it, don't 
think it will work from a console with x-povray.  By default it displays
the render window, make sure that these lines are in your '.povrayrc' file
which should be in your home directory to get there do cd by itself.

;; Display the image while tracing controls.
Display=true                    ;; (+/-D)
Pause_When_Done=false           ;; (+/-P)

Did you use the binaries or compile your own?  

I used the binaries because I know they work.

Never mind, after a restart it works fine now.
Hell, I had hoped to avoid all that restarting with Linux :)
