This might be the right place to post this question.
I have been just real reluctant to even mess with POVRAY since it wiped out
my last insert file and then went to the new text file format. When it came
out there was talk about a utility to convert the old file into the new
format, has anyone done this?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean..
there is a bug in POV 3.1e for windows that is in the SaveAs. It overwrites the
old and the new file at the same time.
insert file, meaning ?

Eh, no.
What happened was due to my stupidity and the way POVRAY installs. I
installed 3.1 and saw that it didn't use the old insert file. So I deleted
it and reinstalled my old version. Not making backups. It over wrote my
insert file that I had worked on for years. So I reinstalled 3.1 so I could
use macro and have been trying to rebuild an insert menu.
Now I have found a copy of my insert file which I carefully saved on a
different machine then promptly forgot. I want to convert it into separate
text files in proper directories to use in 3.1
Hope that makes more sense....

A bit, but I am still unclear on one fact: What _is_ an insert file?

POV3TMPL.TXT
The file which makes the insert function work.

Ok. now i know what you mean, but I can't solve it. I've never had any use for
it. never heard of any such either.

Looked and didn't find, does this news server delete older posts?

Will do. But no, the news group posts are all there. It would be your news
reader at fault. The utility in question would date to around last autumn
and no doubt the reader is set to extinguish the posts from view back that
far. Probably a simple thing to reset, though not a good idea to keep so
many in off-line mode and all that.

Btw, you cross-posted, I failed (sorry Ken :) to notice that. Please
refrain from doing so. The news administrator suggests not to.

I had it set to search back 3 years, but I used the terms 'pov3tmpl.txt'
and/or 'insert'. I probably would find it under another term.
Eagerly awaiting your e-mail.
