I think this is short sighted.
We are so technologically advanced that a new scary virus was detected
at its birth in December. We are now trying to avoid having this track
like the Spanish Flu. That killed 40-50M over 2 years.
It is estimateded that 50% of people will get covid-19. It has a 2%
mortality rate. That's 156M deaths.
This shit is just getting started. It is disingenuous to compare it to
something that's finished.

I've got different (added?) concerns regarding that graphic. first, it's apples
and oranges, ie the bubonic plague (and other bacterial stuff) should not be
included. second, it's a bit too .. woke for my liking, ie AIDS features but
not the wiping out of indigenous ("meso") Americans, even though smallpox and
such killed them in their millions.
re the 2%. seems to depend on where you live. in the US (figures this morning)
with 14387 infected and 217 deaths, it's about 1.5%, in the UK however
(3280,144) it's about 4.4%, while in Norway and Germany (1790,7; 15320,44)
you're looking at 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively. to think that we're gutting the
world economy based on this, is just irrational (and irresponsibly shortsighted,
I'd say).
(and while I'm square in SARS-CoV-2's favourite demographic (not young,
underlying health "issues"), I really like that it appears to .. clear out the
deadwood. :-))
regards, jr.
