I've noticed recently that a lot of threads don't have the usual "next 10
messages" link, even though I can clearly see that there are 26 or more messages
in the thread. (Chrome browser)
Reading the messages individually via the digests does work.

Tee-hee... the link isn't gone. It is just right-aligned -- and the
thread happens to contain overly long lines that blow up the width of
the HTML page.
Scroll to the far right, and you'll find the "next" link.
