When I reinstalled it I forgot I had removed the "reply" button on my
previous installation - so instead of clicking followup I was trying to
reply directly to the poster, not the newsgroup... Just an idea.

Wow, thanks for pointing this out!! In addition, my SMTP settings were
configured incorrectly.
