I'm sure I'm missing something crucially important... for example, "the
point"...

I've heard of the movie... don't know what it's about though.

It's Matrix without the cyberpunk paranoia, cool style and most CGI effects.

Actually, it explores dreams and how difficult would it prove to be to plant an
idea into someone's subconscious.

It's a pretty good movie, like most from the director, Christopher Nolan of Dark
Knight and Memento fame.

For the purposes of this joke, you have to understand that the plot of the
movie revolves around getting someone who is already dreaming to dream that
they're having a dream within a dream. Hence the "we have to go deeper" kind
of meme.

     "That was fatal?"

Hmm, OK. Although I think running Windows 3 would be more of a nightmare
than a dream...

How about running windows 1.0?
Then, as you go deeper, you stumble on DOS 3, then DOS 2 and DOS 1.
Next, you find yourself digging into CPM...

I would have recommended watching the movie rather than spoiling anything
about it...

What is there to spoil? From the first moments into the movie you know it's
about dreams and that you are charged with the mission of implanting an idean
into someone's mind, thus the title.

That's like saying that the first moments you see Memento you know what
it is about. That doesn't mean I would not have liked to see it without
knowing.
