I'm contemplating the creation of a forum (unrelated to POV), and I'm comparing
forum software. Thanks!

My guess it's some typical unix NNTP server software. Not a "forum" per se
(at least not what the current generation understands it to mean).

The news server is:
200 news.povray.org DNEWS Version 5.7b1,, S0, posting OK
(Taken from the header when telnetting to port 119).
The web interface, I believe, was custom created, but there are several
good packages out there. If web forums are of interest to you, check out
vBulletin. It's not free, but it is pretty good (and there's an NNTP
gateway, so you can connect to it using a news client if you like).

That's very helpful. I really like the forum customization DNEWS allows. It
appears from the DNEWS website it's no longer supported, but vBulletin might be
a good alternative. Thanks for the info.

Glad to help out, Dave. I moderate on a couple of systems that use
vBulletin with an NNTP gateway, and I find it to be a fairly decent
system. :-)

Invision Power Board is pretty good too for web forums.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at both of those.
