I am thinking about applying for a job near Tampere, Finland. Does anyone have
any information about the area?
Tampere, is the nearest airport I've not been told who the company is yet all I
know is that they manufacture heavy machinery.
Any information that would help me to guess if I would like to live there for
six months would be appreciated.
Regards
Stephen

I live there.

There's a small airfield here, but it's very rarely used for international
flights. With almost 100% certainty your flight will arrive at the capital
city airport, at Helsinki. From there you'll probably have to get to Tampere
by train or bus. It's a 2-hour travel. (The company will probably tell
you more.)

It's a rather quiet city. I don't see why not.

Don't worry I'm only applying :)

From what I can see, Ryanair flies there to and from London Stansted. It is good
to know that it is only two hours travel to the capital.

The photographs of your countryside that you have posted (IIRC) show it to be
beautiful.
Thanks for the reply.

That's true, yes.

I wouldn't call it "countriside", really. It's just that there are forests
and lakes very close to (and in some cases even inside) the city. :P
For example this is in the middle of Hervanta, which is the largest
suburb in Tampere (it's only a minute walk from the center of the suburb):

Coming from a British city the thought of a forest and lake inside a suburb is
mind boggling. But it is diversity that makes the world interesting.
I'll now try to put the job out of my mind so I don't build myself up.
Thanks again.

I've born there. It's 3. biggest city at Finland with 'bout 200k people.
Big enough to be a city, small enough to get some freedom.

Hmm.. Tamrock is the first one to come to my mind. Then there's also at
facilities. And Plustech comes from Tampere.

If you're anything like me, then yes.

Sounds nice

As I said to Warp I'll stop thinking about it now. Over the years I've applied
for a few jobs in that neck of the woods (no pun intended) but never landed
lucky.

Thanks Aero, a personal recommendation is better than internet reviews.
It would be nice to work in Finland especially in the summer, I think.

Well, it's one of the rare cities I would consider of living in ;). I'm
not a city-liver (heh, what a word), but I could feel homie there.

That's a good plan. One should never be too optimistic (neither too
pessimistic), but a realist.

Yep, tells usually much more :).

I like the winter more :p. We finally got one today \o/, and I started
missing my RWD Volvo :D.

I saw enough snow in my childhood to last me the rest of my life. And I bet it
wasn't half what you saw. I won't even read a book if it is set in the cold.
Brrr!
:)

Not much of a winter in recent years, though...
