Google Code died, and SourceForge keeps changing ownership. How viable 
do you think GitHub is in the long term? Will MS abandon it in a few years?

With MoneySoft in the background, I guess it's more viable than ever. To
the best of my knowledge it hasn't been profitable - and I'm sure MS is
the one company that doesn't need it to be. What they do need it to be
is just what it has become over all those years: A central place for
open source software development to happen.

I think the biggest unknown is not whether MS will abandon it, but
whether the developers will. If they all flock to GitLab or other
places, GitHub will become worthless to MS and they will of course let
it die.

I for one am looking forward to seeing GitHub integration in Visual
Studio, and I'm pretty sure MS knows they can't afford to piss off the
open source community anymore.
