Ah grumble grumble. I thought M$ was done with this embrace extend 
extinguish shit.

A 12 hour update (I don't think it helped that I had povconsole64.exe 
running, even at "idle" priority) and the bastards deleted my 
c:\apps\git directory, which included git bash, and replaced it with a 
lovely powershell based git at

C:\Users\dick> which git
/cygdrive/c/Users/dick/AppData/Local/GitHub/PortableGit_69703d1db91577f4c666e767a6ca5ec50a48d243/cmd/git
C:\Users\dick>

This caused my SmartGit app to fail. :(

Extra confusion points for how does powershell grok /cygdrive/
