It's worth reading this:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/08/05/pcs_crashing_only_when_my_back_is_turned_its_the_same_old_dune/

We've all had the same problem. However if you then read the comments,
TRT has the explanation under the title: 'If you look in the hardware
block logic diagram of any IT device...'

A brilliant explanation and worthy of a beer or three. (Yes, I'm Small
Furry Animal and it was me who bought TRT the virtual beer)

For more decades than I care to remember. I have been quoting this
homage to the Reverend Dodgson.

Speak severely to your ‘putor,
and boot it when it glitches.
It only does it to annoy,
because it knowns it itches.

And I'm a Pict.
Lets find a cave and grove. :)

"Roughly". It must be "roughly". Go ask Alice, I think she'll know.

That said, percussive maintenance and the liberal application of
"booting" is no new invention in the human-machine relationship.
(Instead of boots, clogs were also famously used.)

Oh my goodness. I paraphrased it wrong all those years ago.
I think my version scans better when talking about 'puters.

As a maintenance engineer. I know that you don't get paid for kicking
the box but for knowing *where* to kick the box.
