Using Mozilla Thunderbird for reading POV-Ray newsgroups, somehow I
can't save any attachments (other than images); T'bird gives me the
green bar in the status line for a long while, then complains about a
timeout for news.povray.org.
Is anyone else experiencing the same difficulties?

it seems like it depends on whether I "save attachment..." (never seems
to work) or just "open" it (which in the T'bird settings I can configure
to mean "save to a default location"; this does seem to work reliably).

Strange.
When viewing a message with attachments, I can right- or left-click on
the attachment's name at the bottom left of the message and save or open
it, or I can left-click the Save button at bottom right; right-click
there gives the same options as in the former possibility.
Using Windows 7 btw.

I have the same problem (T'bird 24.5.0 on OpenSUSE 13.1) and I've had it
for so long that I've got used to the workaround. In fact I think that
if the bug is ever fixed I won't notice.
