Ah, now that's an interesting opening move. Bold. If it's Terminal 5,
it might even be considered courageous.

As the triangle is not yet opened, I'm going to try a variation of the
classic Garden Gambit, and go for Aldwych.

Nice counter-move. You didn't fall into the trap I'd set.

I think, therefore, that I'll try Parsons Green.

Why, thank you - it's always good to know that one's study has paid
off. :)

> I think, therefore, that I'll try Parsons Green.

Of course, the benefit of the Garden Gambit is that it avoids the trap
you set by setting one of my own. It was, however, probably not such a
good idea to say that I was using that particular opening, because it
made it easy to avoid the trap that is usually set so early on.

I did, however, anticipate that you'd see that (perhaps by announcing the
opening I was using, I was laying a different sort of trap?) coming.

So my next move, then, is Angel.

Damn, damn, damn.

Only one choice then. Off to the city branch of the Northern Line. This
is allowed under the Samantha variation of position.

Bank (in rush hour)

Now that's just evil. I didn't realize you were playing with the
variations on Samantha's position. That certainly makes the game more
interesting, but it also increases the points. It does also increase the
risk of, um, point *reductions* whenever Samantha is in play.

Greenwich seems like a logical next move, so I won't do that. Instead,
I'll go to Waterloo.

I wonder where Stephen is. Rumour has it that he's playing with Sven.

Meanwhile, allowing for your diagonal, I'll go Cannon Street.

BTW this game has to last to Xmas - it might help the uninitiated to
understand the rules

I'd heard that rumour as well, but I cannot confirm nor deny it. :)

> Meanwhile, allowing for your diagonal, I'll go Cannon Street.

Very gracious of you to allow the diagonal. I assumed we were playing
the London variation of the Bethlehem rules.

> BTW this game has to last to Xmas - it might help the uninitiated to

Oh, yes, absolutely. And you perhaps didn't see the game Stephen and I
played about 18 months ago or so - I think we kept it going for about 4
months, maybe longer. It was a very interesting game, and I've been
looking forward to another chance to play. :)

Since it is Bethlehem Rules, Kings Cross is the logical next choice. But
in a stunning double-bluff, I'm going to actually make that move. ;)

You are right, it is my move. The taxi taking me to Terminal 5 will be
here soon.

Double six takes me past GO (I collect 236.82 Euros) and land on the
Community Chest, where I find out it is my birthday. I collect £20 from
each of you and throw again.
Liverpool Street Station, which I buy.

Aha. I see what you're trying to do.

I raise you £5 12s 4d and land on a ladder which takes me to square 24.

While Stephen's tube is stuck between stations (probably owing to that
black knight's move dropping the queen's pawn on the tracks, causing a
shutdown), I'm going to play a the "play 4" rule card, and then follow
that with playing the Time Traveler, Holographic Projector, and
Expendable Crewman keepers before my train arrives at Victoria.

You are not kidding. The backlash of that vortex from the black knight's move,
has knocked me along the diagonal, put me in Huff and I ended up in Brussels -
Zaventem luchthaven. So I move to Diegem even if only to recuperate. Which means
that being in Huff I must endure random losses of turn.
I won’t raise your raise but see you for 120 Guilders and one stuiver.
I have two pairs.

I thought we'd agreed to go Dutch.

I'm thinking of giving Samantha a go but realise that that might allow
Sven to expose his diagonal. So, just to give Jim a chance of a new
opening ...

Hopefully my flashlight doesn't stop working here in the boiler room
where the gateway is, because if it does, then I'm going to become a chum
of the Elder Ones.

As I recall, there's a route along the Miskatonic that, while not
leveraging the full effect of the diagonal, can take me back to Ipswich.

Ha! You fell into my trap (Arkwright's 4th Opening - variation 2.9). You
now run the risk of exposing your rear to Sven.

Stephen's move methinks.

Ha! You thought I fell for your little "trap," but I'm the one who
pulled the woolly mammoth over your eyes! Muahahahahahahahahahahaha!

First up: Repetition! (of "Plugh")

But thanks for the lamp, that means I can watch as the horror of
realisation crosses your faces as to what you've unleashed. :)

You had lower case in your day?
All we had was a Teletype and a paper tape reader.
Tell that to the youth of today and what to they say?

Now that you have got it out of your system. Can we get back to the matter in
hand?
And John. Put it away, please. Samantha's beginning to waken up.

That depends whose hand it's in.

It's better if she's awake, means she can keep track of the points better.

Bugger. I didn't see that coming.

Fortunately, it's John's turn, so I don't have to deal with that.

Moving on to a modern marketplace, Charing Cross, assuming the diagonal
is open. If I've misread it and it's not, then Hyde Park.

Well, compared to the paper tape, pretty good I hear. Compared to
something modern, though, not so much.

As a gentleman I shall allow that play just once. The deliberate holding
of Stephen's diagonal, whilst legal, is not considered to be fair play.
Therefore ...

No, that's fair enough. It wasn't intended as a mean-spirited move, but
I can see why it might be taken that way.

Well, the rye will certainly come in handy.

Obviously, Dalmuir West is the next move, and given that I was /so/
aggressive on the last move, I'll go there. :)

A generous move. It seems that Stephen has several pathways to choose
from now.

BTW If you want to know why I'm awake at this hour (05.02 GMT), blame
the Feegle. The poor little thing has had a severe chest infection (his
temperature shot up to 40C at one point) and he's not sleeping well.

Anyhow, moving south again, Carlisle.

Interesting fact: Carlisle is the most besieged place in the British
Isles. But I am not that interested and I see that the eastern egress is
free. So it is oft to hang a monkey.
