Yeah, that's the version I have too.
I do remember reading some kind of warning or caveat when I installed an earlier
version (16.xxx?), mentioning that the Java Runtime download was disabled at
that point, for security reasons or incompatibility. (That's probably why I
didn't have it on my own system.) I guess everything gets along together nicely
now.

That's simply because Mozilla's a little anal retentive when it comes to
plugin compatibility, not due to any actual incompatibility.
This being said, there were serious security issues a while back with
java 1.6, so it's possible that recent versions of FF may disable a
vulnerable java version.
