We have a small GPS that suction-cups to the window. Sometimes the
suction cup utterly fails while driving down the freeway at 70mph.
Generally results in a string of swear words that would make a sailor
blush.
Additionally, I suspect that it occasionally gives bad directions on
purpose because I haven't updated the map in a couple years. You
know.... JUST to push the user enough to shell out the money for a map
update.
I wouldn't be surprised if the routing algorithm had some kind of random
factor added to it that would become enabled when the map is out of date.
It could also be the fact that there's been a lot of construction in the
area where the GPS was giving strange directions...
... NAH!

Hehehehe, that idea about intentional incorrect instructions is awfully
cynical, sounds like something I'd think. I remember having one of the
Everlost systems in Colorado, and it sent me down a dead-end and said
"keep going".

I'm honestly surprised that I've never heard of companies releasing viruses
that would affect a competing company's products. Except bot-net authors.
