Oh don't! I've already elbowed one partner in the face! O_O
And I don't mean I bashed her slightly, I mean I properly SMACKED her
right in the face. Weirdly, she didn't seem to mind. (??!)
(I made the FATAL MISTAKE of changing my mind part-way through a figure.
If you ever do formal dancing, DO NOT EVER DO THIS!! It doesn't work!)
You know, when you sign up for dance classes, they don't really tell you
just how hazardous it can be... o_O

Yeah - as per below. Now I've got a copy of Maggie's Blue Suede News,
almost every day on the calendar has at least a dozen R&R events
happening *somewhere* in the UK. It's just that for any given region
[except London], the number of events happening "near by" is much lower.

Anything energetic can be dangerous and dancing is very energetic.

Indeed, several.
And not forgetting a *dance school*. Shelly was complaining that there
aren't any near the tiny village where she lives...

Oh, what, like this?
http://www.unicorn-50s-designs.co.uk/
Uh, yeah, not for those prices. (And who the hell dry-cleans anything?!)
Besides, the gig at Roade I wore almost nothing, and I was utterly
soaking wet by the time I went home. I went outside for some air, and
some guy in a drape jacket looks at me and goes "aye mate, is yous hot
or something?" Then again, *he* wasn't actually doing any *dancing*. :-P

Kill anyone dancing - that's just silly....
Um... ok I've drawn blood before and given myself mild concussion on
another occasion, perhaps needing a license isn't such a bad plan.

The prices are a bit high but not IMO for cult clothes.

You have to remember that organised dancing is not the same as what is
danced by ordinary people.

Heh. There was a young lad who used to be in my dance class who actually
had the big quiff and the tight jeans, jacket, etc. And he was a big
strapping lad; it looked *good* on him. I wasn't a fantastic dancer, but
he certainly looked like he _should_ be doing R&R!
Now me, I don't think I have the right physique. I'd just look silly. (I
mean, I do anyway I guess...) Besides, all that gear is *far* too hot to
dance in.

The little old biddy in the coffe shop yesterday said "do the charity
shops".
If you stop and think about that for a moment... it's quite insightful.

...you *want* to see me wearing almost nothing?!? O_O

Yeah, well, "rock & roll" belongs to a whole constellation of similar
but different dances. There's Rock & Roll, Jive, Swing, Lindy Hop...
There's several videos on YouTube that purport to teach you "Rock & Roll
dancing", but each one shows different steps.
> Hand jiving is more my style, now-a-days. :-)
Oh yeah - what *the hell* is the hand jive?! A couple of ladies where
doing that at the gig last week... really bizare!

It is not my style either. Anyway those clothes are for chatting up the
birds not for high kicks.

interested you could probably find something at a market in London (wash
my mouth out ;-)) such as Camden Market.

Not personally but it would be a good laugh if you did. :-P

Something to do in cafes where there is no space to get up and dance.
Also shows how hip you are.
