amazing sustaining he's able to get... sounds more like organ than harp,
though, despite being percussive (though that's some very smooth

It is more like a bowed instrument than a percussive instrument.
Did you never try and rub the edge of a glass with a clean and wet finger ?
You can even get a longer sustain than with a bow because it is a circular
movement :-)

just did but the glass cups I have around are much too thick and cheap so all I
get is annoying wetty noise. :P

Be sure your finger skin has no fat or soap layer and just find the adequate
fingertip pressure and speed

Yeah. The recording quality isn't all that - but I guess, much like a
pipe organ, a glass harp isn't especially easy to record.
Of course, he can't do the 11-note block chords in the original score.
But he manages to come surprisingly close. A glass harp also doesn't
have the 8-octave range of a cathedral pipe organ...
