I tried to make some of these many years ago but somehow I was never
able to get a nice result. Certainly not nearly as good as this guy's,
which are quite impressive.

I classify this in the "way too much time on my hands" school of hobby,
myself. I imagine with only 80 to 100 hours of practice you could make some
pretty decent holograms. :-)
