Or, the lady sees him being an asshole, but nice *to her*, and is impressed.

Or rather, they look like a**holes to those rivals who are unable to attract
women, precisely because of their success (ie jealousy). Or, men who are
successful with ladies get a self-esteem boost that makes them look like
a**holes. Or, it's actually the machismo that attracts ladies (if a woman
tells you that you are sweet and sensitive, for instance, she doesn't see
you as a man, which may be ok after you are married, but not before). Or
it's a combination of all of the above (and below).

He's confident and aggressive, whereas you're shy and self-deprecating.

You need a wingman. Hell, if I can't seem to have any luck with the
ladies, I'll call up a certain girl I know and ask her to go drinking
with me. She flirts with the ladies even more than I do, and somehow it
seems to rub off on me and I end up with a couple of numbers... ;)
You know, I'd love to get the chance to go pub crawling with you. I bet
you'd be a lot of fun to hang out with IRL :)

That's great :)
Not quite like that, though. I honestly think it's just her confidence
that rubs off on me, and that seems to do the trick.
