I had always wondered WTF the Beatles song by that name was supposed to be
about. I knew what a day trip is. I finally realized I could probably google
up what "day tripper" meant in slang, and now it makes *much* more sense.
As an aside, I now have a nice derogatory yet polite-sounding term for
people who pick and chose which parts of their holy texts to believe while
still insisting that others should obey the same bits. ;-)

Nice try. You're not tricking me into Googling that at work. Not after
the bukakke incident. :-P

LOL!
Hey, you're in the UK. You should already know what it means.
FWIW, it seems to mean someone who is a hippy, but not really committed.
More generally, someone who wants to live the lifestyle without making the
sacrifices. As in, a day tripper is someone who wants a vacation but
doesn't want to actually go somewhere new.

Also, by the time I was born, the whole hippie movement was already a
dim, chemical-clouded memory. ;-)
In general, when I hear somebody yelling "I am the walrus", I tend to
think they've maybe had a bit too much acid or something. (I'm aware
some people claim the Beatles *meant* something by that though...)

Yes. I was being polite in not putting a winky-face on it. ;-)

I heard an interview with one of them (don't remember which, sorry)
where they admitted that most of their songs were, in fact, made up
gibberish rather than having meaningful messages or anything like that.

I never understood in English or Art lessons at school where we would spend
hours trying to work out what the artist/author really meant by certain
things. My "maybe they didn't actually mean anything apart from the literal
interpretation" never seemed to go down too well :-)

Hell, they *must* have been smoking *something*! Why would they mean
anything when they're talking about plastacine porters with looking
glass ties?! Of *course* it's gibberish!
Of course, the Beatles somehow managed to do it with style, whereas
Oasis just pick random phrases that happen to rhyme. :-P

In my day they were called “weekend hippies”. I think that I might have been one
as even though I had long hair and smoked wacky backy I actually had a normal
job in a factory.
Day Tripper was a more general saying hijack by the druggies.

the trick :-D @_@

Heh, whatever.
Oasis are a bunch of jumped-up Manchester lads who think they're the
modern-day Beatles just because they play guitar music with lyrics that
don't make sense. While they are moderately popular, they're no match
for the Beatles.

Harder question: Band, Song Title and Album?
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come through the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

Funny, I never did care much for Oasis. Perhaps their overinflated ego
helped cement that.
LMAO.... modern day Beatles...

In fairness, Noel G is actually quite a talented lad. But his brother
Liam, while obviously far from talentless, seriously needs to get over
himself and stop being such a twat.

I loved the time when the Americans were the bad guys fighting untenable wars in
