"As hosts, the UK Treasury produced an extended agenda pamphlet proposing
the issues to be covered at the London Summit:

   1. Coordinated macro-economic actions to revive the global economy,
stimulate growth and employment - review measures taken and possible
further steps"

Gee, that's really something to riot for. How dare they try to do something
to alleviate the economic crisis and improve the employment situation! They
are definitely evil!

  People are idiots.

I get the impression those sorts don't want a government or any commerce,
they just want to live in huts and fend for themselves (or maybe it's just
the types they pick out for TV/newspaper interviews?).

I find it rather ironic (and very hypocritical) that these people go
and protest against commercialism, capitalism and the current economy
model... and afterwards they drive their fancy cars to go to their
fancy modern homes to watch their TV and prepare their cheap food in
their fancy kitchens, etc.

  People are idiots.

Half the population have below-average intelligence. This is a fact.
Depending on what you believe the "average" intelligence to be, this is
a rather frightening fact... o_O

That still doesn't explain why "most" people are idiots - unless the
average is really low...

The brighter half keeps quiet and does productive things, while the
vocal stupider half keeps making noise and rioting over petty things.

Even so since humans are also emotional and not only rational we tend to
contradict ourselves since reason and emotions are contradictory in
nature being both par of us, so even the most intelligent people get
stupid from time to time and some people tend to use selfrighteousness
to accommodate their mistakes to a more convenient and quiet conscience,
caring little or nothing about consequences that eventually will spread
like waves on a pond and affect us all, as everything we do is.

Not all people use reason, assertiveness, balanced emotions to overcome
their fears and problems, also some people make stupid decisions when
they suddenly have an overwhelmingly strong feeling, like deep fear,
panic, desperation, etc.

I think this should be a lifetime correcting and learning path for all
humans to compass our improvement in technology with soul/karma
improvement that also include tolerance to people fearful and more
shortsighted, narrow-minded and less IQ graded that the average (not
alluding anyone here).

Cheers.

I disagree with this. I think emotions help us decide what we want and keep
us working towards a goal, while reason lets us balance the different
emotions and decide which ones to act on and how.

Anger is an emotion. Anger at being cut off in traffic is below reason.
Reason tells you that the consequences of acting on that anger in any
violent kind of way are likely to cause even worse emotions, like
frustration at not being able to get past the prison guards.

Hunger is an emotion. Reason tells you where to go buy food to satisfy it.

Fear is an emotion. It keeps one running away from the predator, even if one
is also hungry and running past food. In this case, reason would agree with
the fear and keep you running. Unless you're being chased by the Terminator,
at which point you'll starve if you don't eat before he gives up, where
reason tells you the likely safest time to pause for a sandwich.

I don't think that reason and emotion are at odds. Different emotions are at
odds, sometimes, and one can use reason to decide which emotion is more
important to act on. It may seem like reason is contrary to emotion, but
it's just selecting different emotions to act on.

(The rest of your discussion is spot on. :-)

Emotions definitely *do* have logic to them.

I'd say that emotions are a set of logical heuristics. And, usually,
they work quite well. But like all heuristics, sometimes they're wrong...

I didn't mean to imply they didn't. I was merely speaking about the results,
not the mechanism. I was trying to express that reason and emotions work
together, not contradictory to each other. It's the emotions that are
contradictory to each other.

I don't know about "logical heuristics". Certainly "heuristics" tuned by
evolution.

Feelings yes help you but I think only when they are properly railed as
in the examples you posted, I was writing about feelings per se, they
look only to satisfy needs those needs are 100% selfish and can go
against other feelings; that is why I wrote in nature, meaning by
themselves.

Example to clear my point: a wife and a husband are in the sea after
boat sinking, and a helicopter sends a line, the husband freaks (panics)
out and try to reach it stepping on her wife, this is pure feeling,
triggered by the self-preservation instinct, 0% reasoning, it goes
against love and guilt feelings and the reasoning/logic of the
consequences or the responsibilities as a
husband(protector/provider)/father.

A Feeling can be concurrent, deviating, contradictory, senseless,
unpredictable, caprice, overwhelming, etc., and in all this states it
follow the logic of satisfying itself, hence the need of guided logic to
do the best for the person and as an ultimate good the ironic
destruction of it for the wellbeing of another. This is when logic and
all feelings collapse but 1, love(as 100% non-selfish), as I have
accidentally proved is always the best logic of all at least the reason
of all true good; unfortunately love only works for all when all follow
its logic. Of course this is only my opinion.

Cheers.
