There's probably a statement elsewhere in the manual like this:
"Please disregard the seal photo on page n. Its purpose is to confuse
non-Japanese people, and thereby maintain the appearance that foreigners
can never truly understand Japan."

John

Ah, Japan. Home of the strange, and the bizare. Chris Tarrant has held
up some stunning examples of this. The Simpsons also did a parody that
was pretty near the mark...

"Mr. Sparkle is a magnet for foodstuffs...he will banish food particles
to the land of wind and ghosts".
"a bizarre TV commercial that had 3 women turn into 3 sumo wrestlers."
...need I comment further?

"I'm disrespectful to dirt! Can you see that I am serious?
Out of my way, all of you! This is no place for loafers! Join me or
die! Can you do any less?"
"Oh, what a brave corporate logo! I accept the challenge of Mr. Sparkle!"
"Awesome power!!!"
"What are your plans for summer vacation? For lucky best wash, use Mr.
Sparkle."

The video was similarly random...

"There's your answer, Fishbulb." A line I utter to my co-workers even to
this day. In fact, it has become a common line for everyone to use around
the office, just as our daily status reports officially became "TPS
Reports". :-) Sometimes, working here is fun.

Usually, things in the Simpsons are just enough out-there to be clearly
recognised as parodies of the culture.
Have you ever *seen* real commercials from Japan?! Great heavens! If
anything, the Simpsons' version was subdued and to-the-point.

Chris Tarrant, after showing an ad for tampons or something, said "I
think I was actually following that one - right up until the rising
Japanise flag at the end... then it kinda stopped making sense".
