Despite the fact that I really like Outlook, I eventually had to dump
it. It didn't take up too much memory, but it ran so horribly slow that
it just wasn't usable anymore.
The UI was extremely unresponsive. If I switched mail folders or
clicked on a different message, I would often wait up to 5 seconds for
the UI to update.
Message downloading was glacial. It could download approximately one
message every five seconds - and this despite the fact that I'm on a 12
MBit line, and no other programs were running at the time.
I'm aware the Outlook 2007 has had some problems, and I've googled
everything I can think of to find a solution. Unfortunately, nothing
worked.
So, I'm back to Thunderbird.

Now, do you mean Outlook, or do you mean Outlook Express?

Oh, definitely Outlook. I use it at work, and I love the way it's your
email, calendar, task list, et cetera, all in one program. Very handy
and convenient. But that's the 2003 version, running on XP. At home, I
had the 2007 version, running on Vista, and it was one slow puppy.
Besides, Outlook Express was deprecated years ago. It's since been
replaced by Windows Mail, which itself has been replaced by Windows Live
Mail.

Yeah, I use Outlook 2003 at work, and it's *very* slow. (But then, our
Exchange server is on the other side of the planet, with a latency of at
least 100ms, and a maximum outside bandwidth of 2 Mbit/sec.)
It's not a bad product. A little irritating to configure, and it has
some silly limitations, but overall it's not bad.
Outlook Expression, OTOH, sucks.

Really? I didn't know that.

Or that. (Actually, I can't tell how it's any different, but still...)

haha, it's all webmail today. I use Thunderbird for newsgroups.
Tonight, I tried Novell's Evolution, but it for some reason froze after
downloading all povray.offtopic headers. Don't know what happenned
there, but it looks very much an email-geared solution.

I don't particularly like webmail.
It's nice that you can access your email when you're not at your usual
computer. But beyond that, it's way more inconvinient than a real mail
client.

Likewise. But unfortunately it has several annoying bugs and glitches
that nobody seems interested in fixing.

Does it do NNTP? Outlook Express is still the best newsreader I have ever
used...
