Sure does, I remember playing it on a Commodore PET 2048. ;-)

Maybe same mistake as I made? Need to take the advised sets of clothes *per
person* (i.e. 10, not 2)...
First attempt also had me low on food. Second attempt just had me take too much
ammo, but otherwise was fine.
4x2 oxen, 15 sets of clothing (a few spare to trade), some ammo (probably didn't
fire anythig more than 40 bullets in total), one of each type of spare parts,
and plenty of food seems to be a good combo. Took 2000 rations, arrived with
something like 200 left. (How fortunate that the food doesn't rot...)
Interestingly, first attempt got me multiple broken wheels and such but could
repair them all; 2nd attempt got me a broken axle twice, both times unable to
fix.
Anyone know of something along these lines as a modern PC game? Fleshed out a
bit, it could still make a really great game. Simple but with an addictive
potential for people like me who love experimenting. Imagine a 3d landscape to
pick your trail; take into account some factors like travelling in a large
wagon band (lagging behind? Sorry folks, can't keep all the people waiting
here!) vs. a small group (everyone stick together no matter what; if they can't
go on, you can't go on) or even leading a whole band (people getting angry at
you because they're sick and tired of the desert dirt).
Pick a career as a leader. Cut deals with indian tribes (expect no trouble from
them, maybe even get help, but forget about buffalo as a food source); make
friends with cavalry (get protection from bandits, but also make it more
difficult to trade with the indians); ...
Oh well, guess I'm going a bit overboard here...

I like the '6 ox, 1000 bullets, park outside town and hunt for a bit then
trade like crazy, wash, rinse, repeat' strategy. Just have to remember to
have clothes for winter instead of trading them off whenever someone offers
some ammo. :P

Not really "modern" or as advanced as you're talking about, but there
was an Oregon Trail 2:

There also appear to be several other similar variations, listed at the
bottom of the Oregon Trail Wikipedia page:
