Sure. Because promoting our services is *far* more important than...
say... BEING ABLE TO CARRY THEM OUT!
Right?
Does anybody *else* ever feel like they're trapped in a Dilbert strip?

Postponed until after Christmas.
Thanks to the guys in here, I have a newly updated CV. And I've got an
idea where I'm going to send it. I'm just going to wait until after
Christmas until I actually send it.
(Presumably the guys I send it to will completely ignore me like every
other company on the face of the Earth has, but you gotta try these
things...)

Except that the person (or persons) who decide what is and isn't essential
is normally the last person you want deciding that sort of thing.

Apparently we're also experiencing a "hiring freeze".
So why is it that roughly twice a month I get a notification of
*another* new person joining the company? :-.
Basically the tennis went like this:
IT: Hey people, you need to notify us before new people start if you're
expecting them to get a new PC. Either that or finance needs to let us
keep a stock of spares around. Finance, what do you guys say?
Finance: We're currently on a hiring freeze, so it's a non-issue.
[I find myself wanting to interject that in the last few weeks we've
hired not one but *four* new people - which is a huge influx for such a
small site.]

Is this like DA's assertion that the worst people to rule the universe
are people who want to rule the universe?
"In summary: People are a problem."

So you reply with:
IT: OK no problem, but please remember that until this issue is decided any
new employees who join (during or after the "hiring-freeze") cannot be
guaranteed a PC on their first <insert how long it takes you to order and
configure a new PC> days.
CC your boss

I should point out that the question above was asked by central IT, not
by me. ;-)
*I* don't have the authority to order a new PC. Indeed, I'm still trying

Try taking down the email and/or various other systems and then wander
around asking if you can borrow a monitor to allow you to fix the problem
:-)
