Going to have a 9 hour each way commute for a while. /Quadrophenia/ at
least every other trip, but that still leaves a bunch of time. There's
only one novel I enjoy reading and I can't make it through biographies,
though other non-fiction might be OK.
Suggestions?

I have my computer autorecord a show off a local radio station (live
streaming) every week (scripted). If I'm going on a big trip, I usually
bring those along.
This American Life may entertain you. I have no idea what your
interests are. You could scour the Internet to see if people have posted
old broadcasts (you normally have to buy them from the site).

Get the Pimsleur $10 language CD's and learn a new language. That's what
I'm doing on my drive to and from work.
Nihongo-ga wakarimasu ka?
It could be an interesting experience, if it doesn't drive you nuts first.
I'd be willing to try it. After 18 hrs, you might have learned a lot.

Shut your eyes, go to sleep, listen to: silence.
I watched Quadrophenia when it first came out - the cinema usher didn't
want to let me in as I was the youngest of the bunch at about 15 years old
(was it really about 30 years ago that film came out??) Managed to squeeze
in somehow though. :)
Great cult film.

Or indeed learn something new.
