Here's something interesting.
Use firefox 3 to do a search on something on wikipedia (on google), and
follow the link to wikipedia. Then go into your settings menu, and clear
out all your private stuff, including saved search results, cookies, etc.
Then type in "wiki" in the address bar, and watch the drop-down list
still have the terms you searched for.

Did you also clear the browsing history, rather than simply your
private info?

I turned on every checkbox except the saved passwords, yes. Browsing
history, saved forms and search history, cache, cookies, offline,
download, and authenticated sessions.
(Oh, *that* is probably why "offline browsing" sucks so much for me -
I'm deleting the offline stuff when I close the browser. PEBKAC :-)
I suspect it may be that firefox is going out to google as I type, and
google is remembering my history based on IP address? That doesn't sound
good.
This is firefox 3.0, btw. Maybe a point-update is better?

Oh, I think I see what happened.
I normally don't clear browsing history and search bar stuff. I opened
the dialog, set the checkboxes on, clicked the "clear now" button, set
the checkboxes off, and exited and restarted firefox.
What I had to do was open the dialog, set the checkboxes on, say "OK",
*then* clear the history (which took noticably longer), then go back and
turn off the checkboxes.
My bad. Nevermind. :-)

Remember that the most common source of errors is between the keyboard
and the chair.

I think I already said that two posts up. :-)

You are being rude, but I believe he was being sarcastic about the bad
usability of having a "Clear now" button which doesn't do its thing as
expected.

Not realy. As I said, I'd already pointed two messages up that I'd
screwed up another part of the same dialog too.

No. I was just wondering which bit of software was remembering things I
thought I cleared. I suspected google, actually, more than firefox.
Looking at the dialogs, at this point I'm not sure *what* I did the
first time, as I don't think you can hit the "clear now" button before
the "ok" button.

And you are lacking a sense of humor.
