OK. When this sort of disk-based camera first came out, they only wrote
to write-once DVDs. I guess people figured it out. :-)

Really? I have never needed that. Maybe it's different in the Windows port.

I really don't know - never tested it. But that's what -of is for: To
specify the container format.

...but no, it doesn't work. Or rather, Virtual Dub Mod will load but not
save MPEG files, and apparently you can't embed MPEG video data into an
AVI container. So I either have to completely decompress the video, or
re-encode it with a different codec.

So I guess this is what I'll be trying next...

As far as I can tell, the default is avi. I have never needed to specify
-of when I'm creating an avi file.

I have never had a problem with dumping an MPEG2 stream into an AVI file.
Maybe VirtualDubMod just has some weird limitation?

One requirement that comes to mind is that you need to have a
VFW-compatible encoder installed to save anything with VirtualDub.

Hmm, interesting. Well that's what Virtual Dub Mod complained about...
maybe they just haven't implemented that part yet or something?

You open up the file in The Software(tm), find the person you want to
remove, right-click on his/her head and select "remove this person".

Hi Orchid XP v8,
I'm not sure if there has been a solution yet (because I only skimmed through
the comments so far) but for converting VOBs to MPGs I use a program called
"VOB2MPG." It can be downloaded at
http://www.svcd2dvd.com/downloads.aspx#VOB2MPG . I haven't used it a lot so I
may not be able to answer many questions about it (but it is a very simple
program when it works). Also there is a video editing program called Wax 2.0e
which is a moderately good (but free!) video editing application. It has an
interface similar to more professional programs and it isn't too hard to learn
for simple things. I hope this helps.
