1) The Spore Creature Creator. Kim's been playing with it all week, and
I've had about 2 hours of computer time all week because of her
monopolizing the PC.
2) I finally broke down and bought an XBox :) Been playing GTA IV, but
we also have Forza Motorsport 2 (which is quite fun).

Well, at least you're still working with bytes and not hang gliding or anything
crazy like that...

Everybody talks about GTA IV. Is it any good?
I once played, IIRC, some version of GTA III for a relatively short
period of time on a console, and I didn't find it all that great.

OK. This is getting silly.

Sort of, but very frustrating. Missions have no save points, so when you die
after 10 minutes of a mission, you have to do it all again, including a
drive across the island to the place where the mission starts. This is
compounded by the fact that half the time you die, it feels unfair - a
random car t-bones you at the wrong time, or their mechanic where you drop a
live grenade at your own feet if you're not holding the left trigger
halfway.
All that aside, it's kind of fun. But I played through the whole thing and I
wouldn't personally recommend it.

After I played it with a friend, I tried the various versions of GTA
III, and found the new one to be much better. Still, I'd recommend
trying it out with a friend or renting it before you buy it - the
difficulty alone can be a buzz kill.

No game rentals in Finland (well, at least not here where I live),
and I don't have any friends with GTA 4...

I played GTA III San Andreas right through twice on my PC because I enjoyed
it so much. It's not just the missions, but all the other details
throughout the map that make it so enjoyable.
However, I've been hesitant to buy GTA IV for my PS3 because I never got on
well with those sort of games using console controllers. I wonder if the
PS3 version allows you to use a keyboard and mouse?

Ditto. When you finish the story missions, you've barely completed 45%
according to the stats. With regard to difficulty, I used to play it
with my flatmate - we'd alternate attempts on missions / escapades,
turning over control upon death / being busted. This works very well
because you tend not to get so bogged down and frustrated with missions,
and you get to learn from others' mistakes, see different strategies etc.
I've not played the new one though. I've heard it's 100% city-based, no
countryside - that's one of the things I liked best about San Andreas,
so we'll see...

I found most of the missions fairly easy to complete first time, but there
were 3 or 4 IIRC that were real pains and I had to play them repeatedly many
times. It's even more frustrating when unrealistic things happen, like when
I had boxed in some guy's car so he couldn't escape - I get out to fire a
rocket at his car (while momentarily looking the other way) and when I turn
around his car has magically shifted back onto the road and is driving off.

Oh yes, that was another thing that put me off, it said the map was actually
smaller than SA. I used to like being able to drive/fly all around outside
the town.
Have you played Test Drive Unlimited? It has a huge map to drive around,
not as many non-driving parts as SA but it will take you at least an hour to
drive around the outside of the island, let alone all the roads inside!
