As in, being "Read-only memory" does not prevent it from being "random
access memory". Your BIOS is stored in ROM RAM (modulo your ability to
reflash it). Your disk is not RAM, even though you can write to it.

AFAIK the term RAM implies read/write access, as opposed to the term ROM,
which is read-only. The two terms are never mixed.

That's a very common perception, but technically incorrect.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM
Typically, yes, people refer to volatile cell-writable memory as "RAM"
because that's for the most part the only kind of RAM desktop type
machines have these days. E.g., the BIOS isn't big enough to make a
significant difference in calculating how much RAM memory you have, but
it is indeed RAM.
There's also the phrase "DASD" - Direct Access Storage Device, which
basically means seekable disk (or drum) rather than tape or punched
cards or something sequential like that.

If we get all that technical, "ROM RAM" doesn't make sense when you
open it up: "Read-only memory random access memory".
If anything, it would be RORAM.

Fair enough. If you unpack the acronym, you need to change the words. :-)

I feel like I'm in a Scooby Doo cartoon. :-)

This is a bit crazy, but whenever I read Darren's surname, I alway see
it as "Dew". I can't help it.
In fact, it took me a rather long time to realize that his surname was
not, in fact, "Dew".

That's kind of weird. :-)
My wife is Chinese (naturalized, now). When she gets introduced as "Mrs
New", all the Chinese folks hear "Mrs Nu" (or "Mrs Ngu" maybe). Then
when the meet me, they're all surprised I'm caucasian. It's pretty funny
, overall.
