A week ago, I randomly queried "can't we all just get along?" in
response to some RPG stimulus. My housemate forcefully declared that
that statement is inherently flawed, the sentiment behind it is garbage,
and because the originator of the phrase (apparently Rodney King ca.
1991, but I could've sworn it was a traditional '60s peacenik cry) was
brain damaged due to having his head caved in, that makes the query
itself (and any subsequent use thereof) invalid. It is utterly
impossible for anybody to get along, ever, etc.

Never mind that you can reach a valid conclusion from invalid premises,
or that in a restricted context people get along just fine every day, or
that a hopeful desire along the 'wouldn't it be nice if...' line of
thought is purely an emotive construct and therefore has no property
relating to validity.

*shakes head and sighs deeply*

It's a good thing I have no spine and acquiesce at the slightest hint of
challenge. His attitude is decidedly nerve-wracking.

The general (and realistic) answer to that is: Unfortunately not.

Well, it does depend significantly on what parameters you set for 'we
all' and 'just get along'...I mean, sure, if you're wanting a global,
unified hive mind, yeah, not gonna happen while we're still human. But
if it's just a vague sort of 'accommodating others enough to allow the
human race to still exist in two generations'...I'd say there are few
enough that truly 'can't get along' at that level, and there are enough
that can that'll stop the outliers anyhow.
