Try making a google search using this as the search string:

‮

Works at least with firefox. Might not work with others (I haven't tested).

Strange that they don't filter those in any way.

Interesting... It has possibilities.

I'm contemplating seeing if I can reverse part of a forum message thread for
a while.

I've always liked searching for stuff like

intitle:"Index of" passwd passwd.bak

The stuff found it just so amusing. http://johnny.ihackstuff.com/ghdb.php
has tons more interesting google searches.

Hehe. I mean a web-based forum. Bonus if I can get pieces of text I didn't
write reversed.

Or this. Interesting results start about half way down page 3

If it helps, I've seen it used in web based forums, and on web based chat as
well :)

What if you want to search for some phrase that is a mixture of
left-to-right and right-to-left languages?

BTW, notice how when you try to select text that is a mixture of both it
correctly allows non-continuos selection blocks (eg 2nd half of an english
word and 1st half of the next arabic word results in a selection area that
is split in two).

Yeah, that idea just struck me and I had to share. ;-)

But you got the parens in the wrong order. Should have been:

The other interesting thing I noticed was that the page title also
reversed.

Interestingly it seems that the web view is not affected... Since you're
the first to actually post the dreaded char ;-)

I'm still not quite getting the behaviour of arrows and end/home keys in
this mode. Should just go to sleep, I suppose :-)

Seeing this is funny - what got reversed and what did not get reversed....
When I wrote the message everything after the 'reversed' phrase was
reversed. - including my commend that thunderbird was messed up.

But in your quoted reply, only the paste from google is still reversed
and the rest straightened out...

go figure...

Tom

Ah no, this is normal, because I pasted the opposite character (whose
code I don't remember right now) just before your comment, to try it out
as well :-)

Thinking about it maybe if one posted in ISO-8859-1 the web view would
be affected as well.
