I always found him to be a strangely attractive mathematical figure.

Sort of neat how a mathematical concept which has become so solidly 
ingrained in out way of thinking originated recently enough that its 
discoverer only just passed away.

Indeed. One tends to think of "mathematicians" as those people who lived 
in ancient Greece several millenia ago. It seems strange to think that 
some of them are still alive today...
