That's a hell of a lot better than I could do.

Well *obviously* these are intended to represent the three main
characters from Ctrl+Alt+Del. From this point of view, the truly
astonishing thing is that YOU CAN TELL WHO THEY ARE!

To understand why this is a big deal, try the following: Get a
photograph of somebody you know. Now attempt to draw their face. When
you're done, see if *anybody* can tell who the hell it's meant to be a
drawing of. Unless you're a pretty skilled artist, I can virtually
guarantee nobody will have a clue who you were trying to draw!

And I've just drawn three people, and you can tell who is who! o_O

Sure, all three images are *loaded* with obvious and elementary errors.
(What the hell happened to Lucas's hand?! Ethan's head is too big. His
hair is in the wrong place. Lilah's head is too tall and not wide
enough. Her fringe is wrong, so is her neck. What happened to her bra
line? etc.) But even with so many incorrect proportions, they are all
*recognisible*. That's astounding!

I didn't even spend *that* long drawing these... about 10 minutes each?
All the expressions have come out wrong, but the characters at least are
recognisible. I'm pretty pleased at this point...

My reference images:

(Second panel has a nice clear shot of Lilah with no text in the way.)

(Top two panels show nice shots of Lucas and Ethan.)

Heh. Thanks.

Looking at the comic, you think "hey, they're really simply drawn. Just
a bunch of lines really. There's hardly any detail at all. It must be
really easy to draw them."

Well, uh... GO TRY IT! It's way harder than it looks. (Like I just found
out.)

Even so, considering this is what I did in a few minutes with
tea-stained desk pad and a freebie pen I got from a dating agency... I'd
say they came out kinda OK, no? :-D

Ditto.

Heck that looks like the first comics.

Well, I didn't think that - but that's because I know that without
drafting tools, I suck at drawing. I was an engineering student in
college, and took a couple of drafting classes, so if I need to do an
orthographic view on paper, I have the equipment to draw it on paper.
But if I need to draw a face, forget it - I just can't manage that.

I thought they looked fine. :-) For those who do cartoons
professionally, they get a character developed and then it becomes easier
to draw them consistently and more quickly. I'm sure if you used those
characters for a comic, after drawing them for a while, you'd know how to
do them pretty quickly.

I remember an episode of The Simpsons that included a brief lesson on how
to draw Homer, conducted by Matt Groening. Very interesting.

actually, you just draw 3 cartoon characters. Much more difficult to actually
draw people.

getting proportions right is really the hardest part of drawing...
