For whatever reason, I apparently just sold 2 copies of "The Three Blind
Mice Return", which was my POVCOMP2004 entry. And, I just got 2 new
comments on it.

It's been out there since 2005 and I haven't gotten any feedback, so it must
have recently been linked-to from somewhere.

I'm certainly not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I wonder,
"What's up?"

This gives me more of a boost. Looks like I'll be working on my "Bonsai
Life" series this weekend. :-)

Feels good, doesn't it?

I think I've sold something like 8 times in all the years my gallery has
been up. (Not including all the stuff I solve to myself yet still earned
royalties and referrals on...)

I hypothesize that only a small number of galleries on Zazzle produce
any significant income. I mean, my gallery is basically a bunch of
Mandelbrot zooms. Wanna take a guess how many others just like it there
are out there? Hint: lots. I think you really have to stand out if you
seriously want to be noticed.

OTOH, many of my most popular products are ones that I myself didn't
think were very good... From this, we can draw two possible conclusions:

1. I have no sense of taste at all.

2. Everyone has different tastes - and therefore almost anything will
appeal to *somebody*.

I don't see these options as muturally exclusive.

PS. Don't you hate it when you have to explain to an apparently well
literate adult what "muturally exclusive" means?

George Carlin said something like this in a routine of his once.
Something like:

"Just nail 2 things together that haven't been nailed together before and
some schmuck will buy it."

He went on to describe a prospective idea for a left nostril inhaler
monogrammed with the state logo being something that someone somewhere
would purchase.

Made my day. Maybe my whole weekend. :-)

Yeah, it's not the $$ that matters (although $$ is always nice), it's just
the idea that someone liked your art/product/whatever enough to buy it. It
means a lot more than 100 "Good job!" and "Nice work!" comments.

Yeah, Gilles made a comment on that once. I believe he basically said that
people generally found his artwork via somewhere else, and were then
directed/linked to Zazzle. In other words, don't rely on Zazzle alone to
promote your products.

#2 is definitely true, and it's one of the things that makes life fun. :-)

I'll agree with that. :-D

Heh. Now all I need to do is find a girl who likes differential calculus...

[Oh, wait. I already did. And she's now going out with some other guy,
but not me. Hmm...]

Oh yes, and so you should. I see that as a nice series. :)

        Go for it.
