Ok, it's probably not really "Art", I just want a chance to talk about my
chickens again. :-)

It's week 22 since she hatched, but I finally got a green egg.
Additionally, I got 2 brown eggs today, making it my best egg day ever.
They only started laying last week.
This is one of those things that I can't really explain "Why?" I'm doing it.
There's just something about raising and growing food that feels right, and
I'm really enjoying raising chickens now. I hope I never need to buy
another egg from the supermarket.
What? A green egg? Yep. I was hoping for blue, but green will do. It's
an "Easter Egger" chicken, derived from the Araucana breed of South America,
but also bred with other American breeds.

Cool. Keeping chickens is something I intend to do, when I have a garden
of my own. They eat kitchen scraps and turn them into free eggs! It's a
no-brainer.
The difficult part (at least in the UK) is fox-proofing...

They're in a coop right now, and unfortunately, that's where they'll spend
the next 3 months. Anyway, it's very fox proof. Mice could still get in,
and possibly rats too, but rats are only a problem with chicks. They spent
the fall and summer in a movable pen. I learned a few tricks to keep
predators out of that, after losing one chicken and having another one
scarred for life (which was only 4 more weeks until he got the axe).
The more I read about raising your own chickens/eggs is that just about
anything you produce yourself is going to be healthier than what you would
get at a store. That's not an answer to my "Why?" question, but it's nice
to know.

Because it makes you feel independent and closer to self-sufficiency?
Because it is a slow process and it changes from the usual hurry?

Because the chickens aren't pumped full of hormones and noxious chemicals.

How do the eggs taste compared to "Organic, Free Range, No Pesticides"
advertised eggs? Compared to Non-Organic?
How does the chicken meat compare? Do you have them slaughtered or do you do
it yourself?
