I'm running across a bunch of open source games (as accessible from the
ubuntu repositories) that have a look and feel of having been made with
povray.

Could someone do an article on a survey of which ones are, maybe interview a
couple of game designers who used pov?

Funny you should say that, I've been using POV just recently for a lot of 
stuff in a game I'm making.  Especially the height-field for the terrain, 
skybox, static lightmaps etc, it's really useful.

I'm programming a card game called JSkat. The background of the playing 
window was made with POV-Ray. It resembles a wooden table.
