Try FreeCAD too, it's working well together with OpenSCAD.

When you import OpenSCAD-scripts into FreeCAD it's producing NURBS-Data out of
it and you can even export the objects as STEP or IGES.

OpenSCAD need to be installed on the system to open OpenSCAD-scripts into
FreeCAD and it's not working, if you import .STL-Files within the Script.

For the beginning have a look into the "Part"-workbench to model the objects and
the "Mesh design"-workbench to produce the necessary mesh-objects for your
STL-export at the end of the process.

See some tutorials on youtube for it.

Best rgds,
Holger
