I'm playing with scattering media & spotlights. I was trying to find a set of
conditions where I could "see" the same thing either in close-up or faraway.

So far, if I get a set of conditions that look cool in a close-up, the scene is
"black" when viewed faraway. This makes sense in that I guess an amount of
scattering that is able to interact significantly with a spotlight will absorb
everything when seen faraway.

Any tips on how to make a cool spotlight-in-fog setting that gives similar views
independent of camera location?
thanks.

I take this to mean the media extends to "faraway", so you are
actually looking through more "stuff" from the distance. You could
try limiting the media to a smaller container or use a density which
is higher in the cone of the spotlight. It's cheating of course, but
then what you ask for might be an unrealistic effect ;)

You could also try using less dense media with a brighter light
source but stronger fading (smaller fade_distance).

Thanks. Now that I think about it, I think the problem was that I was
simultaneously using two different camera_view pigments in Megapov, and this
just threw everything into craziness with media. The media was even blocking
some of the color from the camera_view's themselves.
