I can Open the .pov files , such as the example files that come with
POV-RAY. I can see the text, the file with the commands in it. But when I
try to render, the render menus is grayed out. I have set the preferences
menu (Scenes) to include the paths where the example files are. Does
anyone have any clues for me?

Thanks, R

You already posted this message in the povray.macintosh group in a thread
that already contains the answer to your question. Please actually read

Well, I had tried what was suggested in the previous response, but it didn't
work for me. I got the Render menu to light up (black) by another means.
Now I still have a problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. I
tried to render ash.map Image one of the scenes that comes with the
program. Everything seemed to be going along, it rendered for nearly
3hours, however, all that it rendered was a black square. In other words,
All I can see is a black square. The messages window seems to indicate
that everything went well. But all I got was a black square. Thanks if
you have any advice for me. Ruth

Ash.map is not a pov scene, it is not supposed to be rendered alone, it has
neither object nor camera nor light_source.
It is an include file, an auxiliary file supposed to be used by a pov scene
file. (ash.pov for example)

Ok, the first problem now recurred. I opened the ash.pov file, but the
Render is all grayed out. The word Render itself is grayed out, so I
cannot use the Render. If you could help me, that would be much
appreciated. Ruth

I am not at all familiar with the Mac POV interface, I think it is a problem
specific to Mac interface and file extension system.

Parse Warning: Check that the file is in a directory specifed with a +L
switch or 'Library_Path='
..INI item. Standard include files are in the include directory or folder.
Please read your
documentation carefully.

File untitled line 280

I think I may be almost there. I have a file called untitled that I want to
Render. THere is also an untitled.inc file. I think my problem is that I
do not know where to put these files - which folder to put them in.
Thanks,Ruth

ok, thanks again for your help. Will keep trying to put the file I want to
render and the accompanying .inc file somewhere, to see how to get POV-Ray
to work on MAC OSX. Ruth

Is it a scene you built yourself? what is the .inc file for? if it is in the
same directory as the .pov file it should run flawless.
