I would like to create a single 3d torus or sphere on a transparent
background. I would like to be able to save this image as a tif and use it
to create a tube in Paint Shop Pro. This will be my absolutely first
attempt at using povray. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I suggest using the command line switches +UA +FN. This will produce a
PNG file with alpha channel transparency.

I don't even know if there are transparent TIF files, if there are, POV
won't output directly in that format. So output your image as a
transparent PNG and use PSP to convert it if necessary. I would have
thought that PSP would be able to create a tube directly from the PNG.
