In addition to including the posted benchmark.ini, what are the typical
command line parameters used...say, for a 4 node cluster?  I'm trying this:

povray benchmark.ini +Ibenchmark.pov +Obenchmark.tga +N +NT4 +NW64 +NH64 +v

does that seem alright?

  You are clearly using an unofficial patched version of POV-Ray.

  The correct place to post questions about those is
povray.unofficial.patches and you should also specify which
unofficial version of POV-Ray you are using and what is your
system info (operating system etc).
