Even though it looks like almost any object could be rendered,
using the existing object types...
 ...is it possible to add a new object type ?

Yes, though it requires some proficiency with the C programming
language and the willingness to get your hands dirty in the POV
source code. That part of the code is quite modular and even
object-oriented, so adding an object is reasonably simple.
Adding parser support for it is a tad harder, but still not too
hard for a beginner. If you have some idea of what you want to
add, come on over to povray.programming and tell us about it.
