Hello everyone!
I'm quite new to the 3D rendering world, and I was wondering if anyone could
help me get on my feet quickly.
I've been playing around with 3D scheme this summer, and that's been fun,
but I'd like to step it up a bit.
Can anyone suggest a couple good resources specifically for getting a start
with POVRAY? I'm trying to prepare myself for a 3D graphics independant
study in the fall, and I'd like to be as knowledgable as I can before school
starts, but there's way too much information out there--I don't know where
to start!
Any help you can offer is much appreciated!!

There's a couple of pretty good tutorials in the documentation. Also, look
at all the included scene files. Render them to see what they do, then read
the code carefully so that you can understand why they work as they do.

http://www.wikipov.org/ is a collection of stuff from mostly people that
hang around here i think. But I'd first recommend the tutorials in the
documentation.

Ha ha, point taken. A professor of mine gave me much the same response when
I asked him about learning C++.
Google's great, but I wanted to check here to see where real people thought
was the best place to start, rather than relying on a search engine that
doesn't actually know anything about the subject.
Like I said, though, point taken. If you feel that the results google turns
up are decent reads for a beginner like me, I'll go check them out.
Thanks!!

Don't sell Googling too short, Augur. There really is a lot of good
beginner povray stuff out there! Cheers

I want to second this. I picked up POV-Ray several years ago and just
jumped in. I looked around the net for tutorials and just didn't get
very far.
This year I actually worked through the documentation page by page,
rendering the examples and making changes to see what it did. It is
much easier for me to complete a good image now.
