POV-Ray is the Official version of the program as developed and enhanced
by the POV Team. Because the computer source code for this version is
also made public under certain restrictions, other very talented
programmers can take that code and add other (often experimenal)
functionality to it and contibute those versions, called "patches" to
the community on their own websites. Some have collected the more
useful and trustworthy additions found in these "patches" and combined
them into a sort of super-patch and call it MegaPOV. They have allied
themselves into a team themselves so that this version, which constantly
looks to incorporate new, experimental patches from people, can also be
maintained to a very high standard of trustworthiness.
