Is there something like that, maybe in megapov? I'd need something just like
a heightfield, but not mapped to a plane, but to a sphere. I found there is
spherical mapping for textures, so I thought maybe there is the same for
heightfields?

You can use an isosurface (slow) or generate a mesh within the povray code
using eval_pigment() for example.
